ANALYSING OPENING SCENES FROM ROMANTIC COMEDIES - 'CLUELESS'

 The second opening sequence I am going to be looking at is from 'CLUELESS'. 

THE OPENING SEQUENCE:

Big Hollywood studios usually make romantic comedies - this one is made by Paramount 

2. Music 

This opening scene has an up-tempo pop song which is common to the genre 

'Kids in America' by Kim Wilde 

3. Title cards 

- have bright colours that you would associate with the genre 

- blue 

- pink 

- yellow 

4. Font of titles 

- aesthetic of the font is very common of the romantic comedy genre

- rounded, curvy letters is typical of the genre 

- soft font 

- part of it is in lowercase 

5. Montage of shots 

- shows the girl friend group and their closeness which is a theme of romantic comedies 

6. Lighting 

- bright, high-key lighting which is common for romantic comedies 

7. Location 

- urban location - romantic comedies usually take place in urban locations 

- school is seen - in teen romantic comedies often schools are a common location 

8. Represents romantic comedy themes 

- friendship and relationships 

9. Represents common rom com character types 

- the confidante - best friend the protagonist shares their problems with
