The second opening sequence I am going to be looking at is 'The Maze Runner' which is a dystopian film.

The opening sequence includes the following conventions:

1. Production company ident - 20th Century Fox

2. Titles - it does not have traditional opening titles or credits in its opening sequence - the title 'The Maze Runner' appears after the opening sequence; this relates to the genre and creates suspense and mystery

3. Indication of genre - creates suspense and mystery

4. Introduces character and character traits - introduces the main character Thomas and shows his fear and worry of what may be happening to him - positions the audience with the character

5. Creates enigma/mystery
